Beaches

To most visitors it seems that the whole of the Costa del Sol is one long beach next to which are modern developments and golf courses.

Along the Costa some beaches or streches have become popular with gays but remember none are exclusively gay and there may be families or others who might be offended by sexual activity.

These beaches are listed geographically from West (Gibraltar) to East (Nerja)

The webmaster would be very pleased to receive receive information about any other beaches that should be included.

Torremolinos

Although it no longer flies the rainbow flag along with the other flags Playa Psiden still has more than its fair share of gay sun worshipers. This view from the bar terrace shows the sunbeds that usually hold much of the gay talent. Be aware that the beach between the beds and sea often has families with children.  Not a beach for the all over tan a degree of modesty is required.

Walking along the seafront towards Malaga there is a large island with a statue of two ladies dancing (they look like Beryl Cook models). Also at this point is the Tourist Office, the Playa Psoiden is at this point. Accross the road is the well signed Hotel Isobel and 100m further along is the Hotel Tarik.

This tiled wall is on the side of the Tourist Office.

If you are feeling very fit you can follow the cost road towards Malaga for about 3km past chirungitto after chirungitto on the beach and eventually to undeveloped land by Los Alamos. The road takes a sharp turn inland by the golf course of the Malaga Parador de Golf.

At the point where the road turns follow the beach until by the ever present aircraft noise you realize you are directly under the flight path. Many people on the beach will be treating it as an unoffical nudist beach, it is obvious that many are gay couples or groups. There are no good dunes or woods as suggested by some guide books.  The nearest bar is a good walk so take at least some water with you.  Unless it is the walk you enjoy (on burning sand in summer!!!) you may be dissapointed after all the effort.  The beach eventually reaches a river and it is not possible to walk on to the outskirts of Malaga, it is in effect a dead end.

The beach road runs from the small rocky headland which divides Torremolinos from the delightful former fishing village of La Carahuella.  The photos show the promenade around the headland, a good crusing ground both day and night and the view of La Carahella having rounded the headland.

Where the road ceases because of the headland is one of the lifts from beach to town. This lift brings you to a balcony leaving a good many steps up past the cemetary (well worth a few minutes visit if passing, to see a different way of puting many coffins in a small space)

High Rise Cemetary

The front entrance to the cemetary is at the end of Calle Danza Invisable and the rear of Pueblo Blanco. This area is a crusing area.  Be careful at night. The stairs to the beach close usually much later than the advertised midnight. Not an area to be alone in the dark.

Between Torremolinos & Fruengirola

Now sadly built up and overlooked from above to some extent are a row of secluded small bays. However you reach the gay beach you will need to be agile enough to clamber over slippery rocks. Probably worth the effort if you take a bag with food and drink and make a day of it.

The beach is reached either from the circular bar visible from the main road just past the landmark Hotel Torrequbrada , or about 1km further towards Fruengirola from the official nudist beach.

Torrequbrada

From the cafe steps to beach turn to your left and keep going until it is obvious your have reached the gay beach. Just round the next rocks is the larger nudist beach.  If you enter from the nudist beach steps turn to your left around some difficult rocks. The nudist beach has a strict "no clothes" undress code. The bar if open will refuse to serve you until you show them what you are made off.

Providing you pack a decent hamper for lunch with pleanty of liquid refreshment this beach makes a good day out. At weekends far more locals, and more a place to go with a friend or friends as not an instant pick up place.

Large rocks just a few meters wade or swin from the shore are good for sun bathing or just showing off your manhood to the audience on the beach. The rocks are large enough to shield you and your partner from the gaze of gays on the beach should you want to share an intimate moment standing in chest high water.

REMEMBER you are some distance from help should you have an accident or the sun proove too much. Rocks and shell fish can be sharp a small first aid kit to deal with minor cuts is worth the effort.

Getting There

Parking is difficult and almost impossible at weekends. A Taxi to Hotel Torrequabrada (if you are shy) or Playa Nudista (if not) is by far the easiest. A return taxi can be ordered from the circular bar shown in the photograph, it will collect you from the road nearby. If you are a customer friendly staff may kindly order the taxi for you if you Spanish is limited to " un tio bueno y dos cerveza por favor"  Buses stop near Playa Nudista on the main road.
